| Water Balance Steps |
Temperature + Total Alkalinity + pH + Calcium Hardness + Stabilizer Adjustment + TDS = Saturation Index
Goal:
1.) Add chemicals in the right order
2.) Achieve balanced water
3.) Prevent an unnecessary build up of calcium.
4.) Prevent an unnecessarily high saturation index.
Steps and Order:
1.) Bring Total Alkalinity up to the minimum of 80 PPM with sodium bicarbonate
2.) Bring pH up to a minimum of 7.4 with pH Up or sodium carbonate
3.) Bring Calcium up to a minimum of 200 PPM with calcium chloride
4.) Bring Stabilizer up to a minimum of 30 PPM (outdoors pools only) with cyanuric acid
5.) If Saturation Index is still less than 0, increase Total Alkalinity up to 100 to 155 PPM until saturation index is between 0 and +0.5 (see total alkalinity chart)
6.) if Saturation Index is still less than 0, increase pH up to 7.6 with sodium carbonate
7.) if Saturation Index is still less than 0, increase Calcium up to 400 PPM until saturation index is between 0 and +0.5 with calcium chloride
8.) If Saturation Index is above +0.5, decrease Total Alkalinity down to 80 PPM until saturation index is between 0 and +0.5 with acid (see total alkalinity chart).
9.) if Saturation Index is still above +0.5, decrease pH down to 7.4 with acid
10.) if Saturation Index is still above +0.5 you'll have to drain water and replace with fresh water of low calcium.
